Directions:  From Idaho Springs, head north on 103 towards Mt. Evans and turn right onto West Chicago Creek Road towards the West Chicago Creek Campground.  Just before the hairpin turn you'll see a dirt road to the left with a sign that says "Rocky Road" and a gate.  Park off to the side but be careful not to block the gate.

Hiking along Rocky Road may seem like a pointless endeavor for most of the year.  However, during the fall aspen season, it provides a pleasant stroll through colorful forest along-side a rushing creek.  There are various spots to relax along the way and the road and trail provides a nice way to experience some fall colors when you are short on time or energy.

Rocky Road is a dirt road that leads to several cabins and is closed to general motorized traffic.  However you are free to walk along the road.  After a few minutes of hiking the road with turn to the left. Stay straight on the narrow single track trail.  The trail continues for 1/4 of a mile or so to another cabin but along the way you pass through wonderful aspen groves and get nice views of West Chicago Creek and the colorful hillsides beyond.  When you get to the cabin you can continue for a short way to another gate and West Chicago Creek Road before turning back.
