September 20, 2019 - New State Park at Fishers Peak to Open in 2021 - Fishers Peak is an iconic landmark towering over Trinidad Colorado that has always been just out of reach for most Colorado hikers.  However, Gov. September 18, 2018 - Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge Opens with 10.3 miles of Trails and Plenty of Controversy - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service opened the trail system at Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday September 15th.  While this area promises wonderful hiking opportunities at the base of the Front Range foothills, it is not without a certain degree of controversy over the refuges past history of building uranium nuclear triggers for the U.S. Military.  Click here for a good article and be sure to do your own research before heading out on the trails.

CULEBRA PEAK, 14,053 FT, SOLD! - The ranch property that contains Culebra Peak, elevation 14,053 ft, as well as numerous other 13,000+ peaks has been sold to an unknown buyer. The peak currently operates by a limited permit system for hikers seeking to climb the 14er.  Future access is now in question as the new owner's intent for public access is unknown.  Click HERE for the full article.

President Obama has designated BROWNS CANYON NATIONAL MONUMENT along the Arkansas River near Salida, to be managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service.
