The trail around Lake Ladora is the most popular trail at Rocky Mt. Arsenal NWR. The lake itself is very popular for fishing but the hike around the lake is perfect for a short relaxing stroll with your kids, or a pregnant wife...for example...
From the parking area at the old visitor center, head down the trail to the lake. From here I suggest turning right and looping around the lake counter clockwise. The trail passes several fishing piers and wildlife viewpoints. You'll also pass a few other trail junctions which I highly recommend you explore. As you come around the east shore of the lake you'll transition from stable shoreline to a wetlands area, eventually reaching the beautiful boardwalk area. The boardwalk leads you across the lake and wetlands and is a most serene spot. Take your time here, then hike back up to the parking area. All in all, this hike is short but oh so sweet. |
