Directions: From Lyons, head east on 66 and turn left (North) on N. 53rd Street/Vestal Road when you see the sign for Rabbit Mountain. Follow Vestal Road until it ends at the trailhead and parking area.
The Little Thompson Overlook Trail is wonderful. The short trail gains just enough elevation to make the overlook feel like a worthy reward. The overlook is fantastic and the trail that gets you there is equally enjoyable. From the junction with the Eagle Wind Trail, head left up a steep and straight section to the 1st rest stop and view point. From here it is an easy jaunt across the rolling hill side with nice views of the Canyon all the way to the overlook. The overlook has a bench but venture just 20 ft further to the large boulders revealing the wonderful view north along the canyons and hogback. This make a wonderful place to sit and relax, enjoying the peace and quiet until you're ready to return the same way you came. |
