Directions: From Fort Collins head west through Poudre Canyon on 14 for 24 miles and turn left into the Mountain Park Recreation Area parking area and the Trailhead for the Mt. McConnel/Kreutzer Trail.
Mt. McConnel is a relatively easy 7,960 ft peak located in the Cache La Pourdre Wilderness Area. The trail climbs through evergreen forest with fantastic views to the west. The summit is accessed via a spur trail off the main loop and the views from the summit are 360 degrees. Looking down on Poudre Canyon is a rare treat and McConnel offers one of the easier ways to do so. Lunch/Diner at the Mishawaka is a must for post hike celebrations. |
