Directions: From Hwy 225 take the Mississippi Ave exit and head west. Turn left (south) and go south on S. Potomac Street. As Potomac Street turns west it becomes Jewell Ave. The natural area is on the corner of Jewell and Potomac and the parking area is on Jewell just after the turn.
The Jewell Wetlands is a small but pleasant natural area located in suburban Aurora. The park consists of a pond for fishing and a wooded, mostly dry wetland area with a small boardwalk and wildlife viewing platform. There are basically two trail systems here, the paved outer loop which follows the perimeter of the natural area, and a natural surface/boardwalk trail that weaves through the cottonwoods and wetland riparian area.
The boardwalk is in the middle of the wooded area and provides a peaceful nature experience. While the natural area is relatively small, walking both trails is about 2 miles. This spot is great for kids or if you just want to take a nice stroll through the woods and get some fresh air. The paved outer trail connects to other local bike and walking trails so you could include Jewell Wetlands as part of a longer suburban nature walk. |
