DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 225 passing through Aurora, exit at Alameda Parkway and head east. Turn Left (north) on Chambers Road and turn right into DeLaney Farm.
DeLany Farm in Aurora is an interesting place to visit. The area has an old historic farm, a community garden, and a small trail system. The trail system connects to the High Line Canal Trail allowing for a longer hike. There are multiple loops that you can make in this park making it a great place to visit. The trails are short and relatively easy so kids should do well here.
This description links the High Line Canal Trail that loops around the southern portion of the open space and returns to the historic site via one of the natural surface trails that crosses the interior of the area. From the parking lot, first explore the historic site with an old barn complete with original farm equipment and the old farm house. From the farm house, you can easy make your way over to the paved High Line Canal Trail. Follow the trail to the south, do not go through the underpass. The trail skirts around the open space and soon reaches a bridge along Alameda Parkway. Follow the sign for the High Line Canal and drop back into the open space. At this point you can either follow the High Line Canal or take the natural surface trail that follows Toll Gate Creek into the park's interior. If you follow the natural trail you'll be rewarded with nice creekside views. The trail will soon link up with the single track trail that heads east at the oxbow and follows the creek through a forested area back to the farm. When the trail pops out of the woods you can explore the round barn and return to the parking area by crossing the footbridge. There are also trails that head into the northern portion of the open space and link up to other parts of the High Line Canal trail. It was a pleasant surprise to find this park relatively empty on a week day so this area is ripe for further exploration. |
