Directions:  From Denver head west on I-70 and exit at the Genesee Park exit.  Turn left over I-70 and at the fork in the road turn right onto Genesee Mountain Road.  As you make your way up the mountain, you’ll pass a picnic area with a large parking turnoff on your right.  Park here.

Genesee Park is quickly becoming the centerpiece of the Denver Mountain Park System. The park is huge, close to Denver, and beautiful.  Over the last year or so, the park has constructed numerous new trails and is continuing to upgrade the facilities and make the park more friendly for hiking and biking.  The Genesee Summit Trail has always been there but now it has upgraded trail signage and an official route.

From the turnout climb the steps to the picnic area and the Genesee Mountain Trail sign. Turn left and follow the Genesee Mountain Trail up hill into the woods.  As you climb through the forest look off to the left for a good view of the futuristic house from the Woody Allen movie Sleeper.

Just before the trail crosses Genesee Mountain Road, there is a trail junction with the Genesee Mountain Trail heading straight and a side trail heading towards the road, turn right, cross Genesee Mountain Road, and reconnect with the trail on the other side.  Make a quick right and follow the signs for Genesee Summit Trail.  Make another quick right at the sign for the American Bison Trail and climb up towards the summit.

Just before you re-cross Genesee Mountain Road, are the best views, even better than the summit.  The views of the Mount Evans Massif are wonderful.  Continue up and join the road.  Turn right and follow the road to the next trail sign. Follow the trail to the summit and the historic flag pole and memorial.  Some short trails lead away from the flag pole to explore more of the small summit area.

This trail is short and sweet and can be combined with the Genesee Mountain Trail or the American Bison Trail for longer loops.
