The Beaver Ponds Nature Trail, part of Cherry Creek State Park's Wetlands Preserve, is a nice little stroll along a wetland area with good opportunities for bird and wildlife viewing. This is a great trail for kids and adults looking for a relaxing time in the outdoors.
The hike starts at the 12-Mile North Trailhead. You have two options, the 12 Mile Trail or the Beaver Ponds Trail. Start along the single track beaver ponds trail, when you reach a junction with a trail heading west (right) follow this trail for just a few minutes. The trail will eventually peter out but it explores the creek and there are nice benches along the way. Make you way back to the Beaver Ponds Trail. Continue south as the trail runs parallel to a creek and a large wetlands area. This is a great place for bird and wildlife viewing and there are more benches along the way. When you reach the end of the trail you can either retrace your steps, or take the short social trail to the 12-Mile trail and return to the trailhead making a short loop. The 12-Mile trail is more popular and used by bikers, joggers, and dog walkers. A short, pleasant, possibly relaxing trail along a nice wetland area, and close to Denver. Well worth your time. |
