Directions: From I-70 take exit 252 for Evergreen Parkway (74) and head south to the town of Bergen Park. Turn left (east) onto Bergen Parkway at the sign for Bergen Park to the parking lot and trailhead.
This easy hike follows the paved and good dirt trails in Bergen Park and circles the ponds of neighboring Buchanan Park (managed by the Evergreen Parks & Recreation District). The hike is great for kids, strollers, wheelchairs, or just for a nice walk through nature. Bergen Park itself is a pleasantly wooded area with nice views of the surrounding foothills. Buchanan Park is more developed with a recreation center and two ponds with dirt trails. You can also use the Pioneer trail just west of the Ponds to access the Elk Meadow Park (Jefferson County Open Space) by hiking under Evergreen Parkway to the west. |
