Directions: From Denver head North on I-25 and East on I-76. Take the Bromley Lane exit and follow the signs to the visitor center. There is a fee to access this park.
Barr Lake is huge man made lake northeast of Denver known for its 9 mile biking trail around the entirety of the lake. While you certainly can hike this trail, there are a few smaller trails in the park that are more suitable for hiking or walking. The Neidrach Nature Trail is a great small stroll along the water's edge. Great for kids, this trail includes interpretive signs and a wonderful boardwalk for wildlife viewing and to get a good look at the wetlands bounding the lake. There are good views of the front range and the fall colors are exceptional. The water level in the lake varies greatly, when I hiked this trail in 2010 the boardwalk was flooded, in 2012, almost the entire lake was dry, a stark reminder of the importance of water in the west. |
