Directions:  

The Window Rock Trailhead is located on Saddlehorn Road, just east of the Saddlehorn Campground.  There are signs showing the way and day use parking as well. 

Hike Description:

The Window Rock Trail is one of those classic National Park hikes that is perfect for an evening adventure with the kids after dinner in the campground.  The hike is easy and exceptionally scenic, especially at sunset.

The trail starts near the campground and near the visitor center.  It  leads to a viewpoint on the canyon rim with a wonderful view of the Southern section of the Canyon.  The views of the Book Cliffs to the north is amazing, the view of Grand Mesa to the east is amazing an the views of Independence Monument and the other monoliths of the park are amazing as well. 

The trail eventually leads to a small viewing shelter, then stops.  You can pick up the Canyon Rim Trail and take it to the visitor center but the best way to make this a loop is to climb up to the campground road to return to the trailhead, the visitor center, or the campground.  

It is a wonderful place to sit on the canyon rim and enjoy the evening light and the welcome breeze.
