Directions: From La Junta head Southwest on Hwy 350 for 13 miles. Make a right (north) on Hwy 71 for .5 mi and enter the parking area and trailhead.
Hike Description: The Sierra Vista Overlook is part of the Santa Fe National Historic Trail and gives you a quick taste of the great plains. While it is possible to hike 3 mi along the Santa Fe Trail from here to the Timpas Picnic Area, the short interpretive trail gives you a nice view of the never ending plains, scrub, and brush. Walk up along the side of the hill to a covered viewpoint, descend and loop around back to the parking area.
