Griffith Lakes, also known as Coon Creek Reservoirs, is a great option for a quick and easy snowshoe adventure. The trail follows blue tree blazes and blue poles down to the shore of Griffith Lake (Coon Creek Reservoir #1). When you begin to enter the trees, after climbing over berm, you hike through pine and aspen forest. At the first clearing, the Nordic Trail heads to the left. However, there is often a trenched trail that goes to the right. Each trail will take you down to the lake shore. If you go right, you can follow a trench to the lake, turning to the right, then crossing the lake to the northern shore and looping back to the west. Before you climb back up into the forest, you can connect to the Nordic Trail by following the lake shore to the west, towards the blue pole at the edge of the lake. The blue pole marks the Nordic Trail.
The Nordic Trail crosses the lake’s wester shore and enters an incredibly beautiful part of the forest with old growth aspens towering above and perfect Christmas trees lining the way. The trail skirts to the north of the first lake and soon arrives as the western shore of Mid-Griffith Lake (Coon Creek Reservoir #2). The trail then follows over the western dam of Mid-Griffith Lake, providing nice views across the lake, and enters the forest on the far side of the lake. The trail continues after Mid-Griffith but appears less traveled, where the trail leads, I do not know.
