Hike Description:
Peak View Park is the latest addition to the Lakewood Parks System. The park provides a scenic hike in the heart of Lakewood. There are two trail loops (The Paved Loop, and the Natural Surface Loop…very creative names…) that can be combined for a mile and a half of relatively easy hiking.
The hike starts off on the paved trail at the top of the park, as you hike to the east you’ll come to a few detours for overlooks, the views of the Front Range foothills are terrific. When you transition onto the Natural Surface loop, the trail becomes a bit more rugged but not rocky. This park is also open to biking and the trails are well maintained for bikes and feet. The trail descends and weaves past cottonwood trees and dry washes eventually leveling out at the lower end of the park. The hike turns west and soon meets up again with the Paved Loop. From here the trail gains back the 120 ft and returns to the trailhead and parking area.
The hike at Peak View Park is short, but highly scenic, and located on Wadsworth Blvd, this park provides an opportunity for a quick hike in the suburbs, great for after work, or when the kids need to burn off some energy.
