HIKE DESCRIPTION:

This is one of those, “I’ve hiked everywhere, where else can I explore?” hikes…. Denver Mountain Parks’ Newton Park is mainly a reservable group picnic site. However, when not in use, there is a nice little trail system.

Unless you have reserved the site, you have to park next to the locked gate and you can then walk through and up the access road. Once you reach the picnic pavilion, walk to the back of it and you’ll see the trail heading up a gulch towards a pass. The hiking here is pretty easy so you’ll arrive at the pass quickly. From here you can go right or left. Both trails have loops that return you to the same spot, so I suggest hiking both. The views are the surrounding hillsides are nice enough to make the hike worthwhile.

There are some aspen groves along the way so there should be some fall color and in the Winter this is a good option since the sparse forest provides minimal shade. Not much else to say…nice little hike…
