HIKE DESCRIPTION:
I know, I know, this is a hiking website, why am I reading about cross-country skiing? First of all, this is my website so…tough….
The Frisco Nordic Center is wonderful. They basically took a closed for the season campground and converted the roads to cross country ski trails. It is beautiful, has easy and difficult options, and also has snowshoe trails (which is winter hiking, so there…). The easiest trail is the M’rezy trail. It starts at the nordic center and is a straight shot into the woods and through the campground to a small loop. The trail is easy enough to follow and there are loop options along the way.
The main point is that the mountain views from this trail are top notch. The trails are all along the frozen shores of Lake Dillon and provide views of the Tenmile Range, the Gore Range, and the Front Range. You can’t escape from the views. This nordic center also sees fewer visitors than the major resorts and is close to all kinds of food (and beer) options making it a perfect way to spend a winters day in Summit County.
It’s not hiking, but, you don’t need to hike everyday, right? Surely, you can take one day and go skiing…or continuously falling and getting up again like me…
